QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS What kind of wedding ceremonies do you perform? There are many different types of non-denominational wedding ceremonies -- both formal and informal -- that couples request. Some are more traditional or more religious than others. Here in Southern California culturally blended wedding ceremonies are growing in popularity. I have been the wedding officiant for an increasing number of interfaith weddings. Some couples, particularly couples getting remarried, prefer simple, private weddings in a backyard or overlooking the Pacific. Beach weddings are particularly popular in Malibu, Oxnard, Ventura, and Santa Barbara. Most people seem to prefer updated traditional wedding ceremonies. They want the strength and elegance of tradition with a fresh, personal touch. They want their wedding ceremony to be both deeply meaningful and delightfully magical. There are so many wonderful choices of wedding ceremonies, readings, wedding vows, and other elements -- to create the perfect wedding ceremony for each couple. Do you have a sample wedding ceremony program? Sure. Here is a basic outline of a common wedding ceremony:
This does not include such things as readings, music, the Lighting of the Unity Candle, a Rose Exchange, Rose Presentation, or other familiar elements. How long do most wedding ceremonies last? This varies from wedding officiant to wedding officiant. Typically wedding ceremonies I officiate are from 15 to 30 minutes long. However, they can be as short as ten minutes or as long as an hour depending on the particular needs and desires of the couple. How much advance notice do I have to give? Ideally six to twelve months for summer weekend weddings, three to six months the rest of the year. Summer weddings -- particularly Saturdays -- are often completely booked by early Spring! The earlier you confirm the better your chances of securing your preferred date, time, and place. For simple private weddings where the couple's schedules are flexible, I am often available same day without advance notice. IMPORTANT: Please book early for peak season (April-October.) weddings!! When and where do I get the wedding license? The two of you must go to a county clerk/recorder's office and pick up the wedding license in person prior to the wedding. It can be ANY county clerk office in the state of California. The wedding license is good for 90 days. Generally couples get their wedding license about a month before the wedding ceremony. Bring the wedding license to you to the wedding ceremony or reception. The wedding officiant is responsible for getting the signatures and information completely according to each county's policies (they vary from county to county). When do I get my official copy from the county? This is an area of ongoing confusion for couples. THE STATE DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY PROVIDE YOU AN OFFICIAL COPY of your wedding license! You must complete a form (pink) that comes with your license and write a check ($13 per copy, I believe) payable to the county clerk where the license was purchased. Some counties also require a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Then the form, check, and envelope should be given to me along with the wedding license the DAY OF THE WEDDING. I would then send it all in together. Or else you can order an official copy later. You can do this online in some counties. ONLINE CREDIT CARD PAYMENT AVAILABLE!!! You may book your wedding date/time online! ALL major credit cards accepted! CLICK HERE to pay for your deposit online (secure server) Do you offer pre-marital counseling? No. Do you perform Renewal of Vows ceremonies? Yes. I also do dedications and memorial services. Are you actually a minister and where did you get your credentials? Indeed , I am. I lead services and develop music for "Splash", a biweekly Christian worship service of Sanctuary Christian Ministries, Inc. I served in a variety of ministry positions both before and after my ordination in 2003. Last year I completed my Wedding Minister Certification program (required of all 1st Choice Weddings officiants) through Wedding Ministers, Inc. (see home page for more information). What is the process for booking the wedding ceremony and getting ready? What are the steps? You may contact me through this web page or by phone (TOLL FREE 1-866-329-3334). If you like, I will then contact you -- usually by phone -- to set up a time to meet in person (if practical), either in your own home or site of your choosing. At this meeting we get to know each other, go over the ceremony, and discuss any questions or concerns you might have. Or if the phone feels too threatening (that's the LAST thing I want you to feel!!), complete the easy form at the bottom of this page to receive more information or to inquire about available dates. When you're finished, click the "Submit" button. I promise to respond within 24 hours. Be sure and include your e-mail address! Click HERE TO RESERVE YOUR WEDDING now. |
